🌿 The crowd thought when Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem that now everything would be made right. He would overthrow the oppressors and establish his kingdom to reign forevermore. This same mentality exists with a fantasy Gospel that says Jesus gives us the abundant life, which is often defined as health, wealth, and success - a triumphant life. What the world needs to hear and see in Christian lives is not a fantasy Gospel, but a biblical Gospel that embraces a “messy” earthly life with faith because God is Triumphant.

The meaning behind “Xia”/ Hero
The right part of this word reads “human”. It represents the actions and behaviors of a person. And on the right, the word reads “double-layered”. It is made up of a big “human” with two little “humans”. What it means is that a strong person should help those who are small and frail.”

These color photographs were all taken in the Russian Empire between 1909 and 1918.

Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii was a Russian photographer born in 1863. After studying chemistry with Mendeleev and later with Adolf Miethe, Gorskii started developing his own techniques and processes of color photography, giving it a quality that impresses even today.
In 1909, he convinced the Tsar Nicolas II to send him on a trip across the Russian Empire to document its impressive diversity. It was a 10-year project, during which Gorskii took over 10,000 pictures.

The diversity of the people, and the shockingly modern colors of their portraits, make them impossible to forget. They are our contemporaries, now that they stopped hiding between the unfocused black-and-whiteness.

They are almost too present. [via]

dude this cover of HSDS is so weird, i think it’s the cover for the english translation.

lol this is a graphic novel version by hk artist ma wing shing. the artwork takes a little getting used to especially after watching the tv series, but still pretty awesome.

Actor Yu Chenghui
Cheng Hui’s most well known tv role is the role of Zhang San Feng in HSDS 2009, he also played Feng Xi Fan in Lu Ding Ji, Huang Yao Shi in ROCH 2006, and Mu Ren Qing in Sword Stained with Royal Blood. Most Wuxia actors have little to no experience with Martial Arts, most of the “cool fighting” you see is due to good choreography and computer effect. In LOCH 2008, Ha Ma Gong(toad skill) and Xiang Long Shi Ba Zhang, was mostly based on computer graphics. Although actor Yu Chenghui did not  use any real martial arts in the making of HSDS 2009, he is in fact, China’s wushu champion at the age of 20 (he’s now 73) and was the champion in the Zui Jiu category (translates into drunk sword, similar to the technique used by The Drunken Sword Immortal in Chinese Paladin 1). What I found especially interesting was the fact that he recreated one of the lost techniques, Shuang Shou Jian (double hand sword), which has been a lost skill since the Tang Dynasty. Even though double had sword is commonly seen in Wuxia film and tv series, the actual technique has been lost for centuries. Yu Chenghui said that he got the inspiration after seeing a praying mantis in the rain. The Shou Shou Jian is now a recognized category in WuShu competions. Yu Chenghui has been in several Jin Yong tv adaptions and could truly be considered a master in martial arts. Yea, he’s pretty kewl

yu cheng hui’s shuang shou jian form: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3kY32TuJEY
a couple other shuang shou jian forms survive in other lineages, especially tang lang and xing yi quan. very rare to see though. i hope the two handed sword can make a comeback!

Sometimes, I wonder what makes me really go out of the way to promote Ancient Chinese Series? It’s not my only area of interest when it comes to shows, in fact, I love a lot of other types of shows as well equally, but why am I so obsessed with promoting Ancient Chinese Series?

I think it…
